A former Republican legislator from Nueces County, Torres served the voters during the 82nd Texas Legislative session. He authored key legislation, SB 563, to eliminate wasteful government spending. He also worked to restore approximately $77 million in much-needed state funding for Texas cities and counties and was honored by the Texas Municipal League with their Legislator of the Year Award for 2011.
The proud grandson of Mexican immigrants, Raul Torres understands the value and the rewards of hard work.
Born in Nueces County he attended local schools, earned his undergraduate degree in accounting from CCSU, and over the years has built several successful businesses.
Raul Torres previously served the voters of Nueces County as State Representative in District 33. He is a Certified Public Accountant and business owner who knows how to plan and live within a budget, create jobs, and meet a payroll.
As your State Senator, he will use these proven skills and his experience as a State Representative to lower and reform property taxes, seal our border, and increase accountability in education. Married for 47 years with five children, Raul worships at the Church of Christ.
